REVIEWS of LA TRAVIATA – MALMÖ 2018/2019

(Lars-Erik Larsson)

“Great acting and art of singing is displayed by Davide Damiani in the part of Giorgio Germont. With his carrying baritone, he paints a perfect portrait of one of the worst bastards in opera literature; an old egoistic who uses moral and honour as an excuse and the cross as cane. It is almost a pity that this obnoxious character has been blessed with one of opera’s most beautiful baritone arias, ”Di Provenza il Mar”, that Davide Damiani delivers in an excellent interpretation.”

20181119 SVD
„…Patricia Petibons underbart intensiva Violetta och Davide Damiani stränga, auktoritativa pappa Germont ger denna avgörande vändpunkt oerhörd laddning.“
(Bo Löfvendahl)

” … Patricia Petibon was a wonderfully intense Violetta and Davide Damiani a strict, authoritative father Germont that give this decisive turning point an enormous charge.”

20181119 Sydsvenskan

”… that contrasts with his fathers convention ridden commands – Davide Damiani displays a compact, authoritative baritone that evokes respect.”

20181120 Den Korte Avis

20181120 Epochtimes
(Kristina I Kleinert)

”The baritone Davide Damiani created a further depth in the performance through his part as Alfredo’s father. His rich and nuanced voice portrayed the father’s conflicting feelings with expressiveness and exactness.”

20181121 Ascolta
(BW)

“With his fine baritone Davide Damiani presented us with the well-meaning model citizen, who is out to defend his daughter’s honour, and slowly recognizes Violetta’s true worth. An excellent performance of a somewhat thankless part.”

20181130 Weekendavisen
„…den italienske baryton Davide Damiani har langturschaufførstemme
nok til at tryne Violetta.“
(Peter Johannes Erichsen)

“…the Italian baritone Davide Damiani has sonorous voice enough to put Violetta down.”

20181119 Aftonbladet
(Claes Wahlin)

” The only one to match her musically is Alfredo’s father, Giorgio; Davide Damiani is a rich baritone that makes the duet between them into one of the highlights of the performance.”

20181119 Berlingske

(Johanna Paulsson)

” When Alfredo’s father Giorgio Germont (expertly portrayed by Davide Damiani) comes to visit to ask her to leave his son for the sake of family honour, she throws the moral clenching old man’s coat to the floor.”

(Mattias Gejrot)

” … the grey father (portrayed with a nervous intensity by Davide Damiani) gets to represent Violetta’s destiny, which she after violent resistance accepts.”

20191126 Capriccio
(Yehya Alazem)

“As father Germont the italian Davide Damiani impresses with his sonorous baritone, and also finds a good balance between being compassionate and uncompromising.”

Opernglas – Jan. 2019
(S. Bernstorf)

“.., on the other hand, the former ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera, Davide Damiani, in the role of Giorgio Germont with strong, expressive baritone, which was securely guided.”

20181124 Klassisk
„As Alfredo’s father Giorgio – the man responsible for undoing the relationship – Davide Damiani singing with a varnished nobility that grew in humility as his character was affected by Violetta’s act of sacrifice. “
(Andrew Mellor)

(Jean-Marc Proust)

” The performance by Davide Damiani as Germont also needs to be recognized for its expressiveness and soft authority that makes this moralist father almost sympathetic.”

20181207 Olyrix
(Andreas Wahlberg)

” Accompanied by Alfredo’s sister (silent part), Davide Damiani portrays his father. His authoritative power, rather than light elegance dedicated to persuasion, conforms to the director’s interpretation, but gains flexibility in the pianos of his upper register.”
